Another big draw to Lac Seul is the chance to catch trophy muskie. Lac Seul is not knows as a ‘numbers’ lake for muskie, however, it’s well regarded as a top choice for catching a true giant.
During the summer target cabbage weed beds in bays and adjacent to shallow rock structure. Top baits include large in-line bucktail spinners, jerk-baits and for thrilling topside strikes try top-water baits during calm late day conditions.
In the fall, Lac Seul becomes a trollers paradise. Covering water by trolling large 10- to- 14 inch muskie baits is the name of the game. The best trolling runs are along rock shorelines and prominent points that quickly drop off to deep water. Reefs and current pinches are spot-on-spots that big fish use as ambush points.
Anglers looking for muskie should note that the muskie population in Lac Seul is concentrated on the East end of the lake. For this reason it’s best to base your stay in or around the town of Sioux Lookout.
